HISTORY
How it was founded
Paicol's history begins in 1701, when it was only a settlement located where today Villa Rosa and Villa Nury are known, “Trapiche de Paicol” as it was known at that time, it was a place of obligatory rest and lodging. According to an official letter from 1717, the town moved to the place where it is today, by will JUAN DE VARGAS Y FIGUEROA, owner of the land. In this new location, numerous characters founded houses and farms. By viceregal decree dated in Santa Fe on October 26, 1808, the Bourbon king of Spain granted the creation of the municipality and the elevation of the site of Paicol into a parish.
This document is the first official writing in which the spelling of the Municipal name appears written with Latin i and not with Greek y, as was customary until then. Ratifying the above, the royal audience of Santa Fe, created the Municipality by decree of March 7, 1810. It is one of the most beautiful areas of southern Colombia, with simple, friendly and hospitable people, full of natural settings, it is also kissed by the spirited waters of the Páez River that leaves a trail of freshness in its wake, all this makes it a spectacular destination for the enjoyment of all kinds of adventure activities.

Sources of the Economy:
Peasants are the fundamental axis of the economy of Paicol, Huila:
Paicol has talent in the production of coffee, in addition, cocoa, rice, banana, corn are produced and they have bet on livestock. Even so, there are many peasants who do not have sufficient resources to be able to plant crops on their land and even many families have them, but not the supplements to take care of them.
The Government of Huila and the mayor of Paicol had thought of a project that will support the rural community in the production and purchase of their crops in 2016; However, the project will start up next week with the delivery of resources and training sessions to farmers.
The project consists of creating alliances with different entities that guarantee production tools to the farmers of the territory and a comprehensive purchase of the products obtained by their work. It is precisely the work and care of the crop by the families, the actions that will put the seal of quality on their products.
The investment by the entities, the Government and the Mayor's Office will be distributed as follows:
.23 million pesos to each of the 60 coffee producing families, for crop renewal and technical assistance.
-10 million pesos to 10 families to grow Hass avocado.
-18 families will receive three pigs each with 15 packages of concentrate.
-7 million to 11 cocoa-producing families.
-10 million to families who have land suitable for producing Hass avocado.
The purpose of this investment is to promote the economy of the town that sits on the foundations of family agriculture, that is, the peasants of the veredas are a fundamental axis for the economy of Paicol. On the other hand, it is intended to invest in the representative sites and in the colonial facade of the town, and thus, turn tourism into another economic source for the town.
